Traffic Violation: Permits

Drive Motor Vehicle:
 a) No permit (Ownership)
 b) No Currently Validated Permit

You must have a validation sticker on the back of the plate portion of your ownership to prove that your plates are valid.

Note: The Validation sticker serial numbers on the back of your permit should match the validation serial numbers on your car’s plate.

The Law in Ontario

HTA 7(1)
No person shall drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless,
(a) there exist a currently validated permit for the vehicle

The Penalty in Ontario

$90 plus $20 Government Surcharge

Traffic Violation: No Validation

You can not drive a vehicle in Ontario that has an expired validation sticker. Even if the validation is in the mail on its way, you can be ticketed.

Drive Motor Vehicle:
 a) No Validation on Plate
 b) Validation Improperly Affixed

No person shall drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless,
c) evidence of the current validation of the permit is affixed, in the prescribed manner to...
 (i) one of the number plates mentioned...displayed on the vehicle or
 (ii) to a mini-plate attached to the number plate exposed on the rear of the vehicle...

Traffic Violation: Plates

Did you know that you can be ticketed for having a plate light that is not white in the Province of Ontario? Neon License plates lights are prohibited and your plates can not be be covered.

 d) No Plates
 c) Fail to Display 2 Plates
 d) Plates improperly displayed

No person shall drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless,
 b) There are displayed on the vehicle, in the prescribed manner,
 (i) Number plates issued in accordance with the regulations showing the number of the permit issued for the vehicle, or
 (ii) Number plates described in subsection (7.2) if the vehicle is an historic vehicle and the Ministry has issued a currently validated permit of it.

Traffic Violation: Driver Fails to Surrender Licence

HTA 33(a)
Every driver of a motor vehicle or street motor vehicle shall carry his or her licence with him or her at all times while he or she is in charge of a motor vehicle or street car and shall surrender the licence for reasonable inspection upon the demand of a police officer or officer appointed for carrying out the provisions of this Act.
